MDG #6

MDG # 6  to combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases is what i believe to be the most important of the MDG’s. I have chosen to use this MDG as my topic because it is a rising issue in the world that is most prominent in third world countries. This goal is related to science and technology because it deals with many different scientists and virologists around the world who are striving to find a cure. They use the chemical and biological data from the viruses to develop treatments and lasting cures to these diseases. This research then also relates to our own science 10 course (biology and chemistry units)

In 2000 the United Nations held the millennium summit where all world leaders present adopted the United Nations Millennium Declaration. This declaration contained the millennium development goals to be solved by 2015 including the goal to combat HIV/AIDS. The goals finer terms are as follows:

Target 6A: To have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS

Target 6B: Achieve, by 2010, universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it.

Target 6C: To have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases
